Incorrect date format on my computer - how do I correct this?

My computer states the date as such 09/04/07 (dd/mm/yy). Why is this date being shown differently from the norm. Has Microsoft changed the customary date format or is this an isolated incident within my pc. How can I change/correct the date format to make it understood as 04/09/07 (mm/dd/yy). This is my preference. I am afraid this incorrect date format will cause me problems eventually with the operating system. I operate from Windows XP - 2002 version. Please help!

It won't cause a problem with the operating system.

However, to change it back to mm/dd/yyyy, do:

Click Start

Click Control Panel (or look for the control panel anywhere in the start menu)

Click Regional and Language Options

In the Regional Options tab, click Customize, then click on the Date tab. You should see the place for you to define the date format.
