When I first found out I was pregnant I had a little spotting so I went to the hospital...they did an ultra sound and said that they did not see an embryo but did see a sac...four days later my hormone tripled and a week after that I had another US...They did see an embryo then...well the ultra sound said I was 6 weeks pregnant but that did not go right with my last period...Oct 9...When I asked at the doc on monday they said I was 12 weeks going by my ultra sound and my due date was jul 24...they got the heratbeat and it was 166 beats which she said was really strong for 12 weeks...With the dates they are saying it would have put me missing a period a week after i tested positive...I feel that I should go with the date that I ws given with my period which would put me at 14 weeks because I know when my last period was...they also had a girls due date off by two months...should i go by the ultra sound which puts me at 12 weeks or my period? I added up the dates and the all seem wrong..
WHat date should I go by?
you go by the ultrasound age. if you ovulated later or earlier during your cycle it will change the dates. My lmp was june 14 so my original due date was march 21 but they did an ultra sound pushed it back to March 31. When using your period they go by a "normal" 28 day cycle with you ovulating on day 14, well not all women do that. You might ovulate on day 19 or day 8. It all depends on your body. But the ultrasound date is right. They figure that one by fetal development. Since everything does develop at the same rate, its right one.
14 weeks = gestational age = how many weeks your pregnant.
Reply:honestly, ultrasounds are very rarely wrong, because every baby is the same size until it is multiple weeks old. I went by my latest due date, and I recommend everyone else do it to. lol. you're less likely to feel let down, say you have 2 due dates, like, tomorrow, and 7 days from now, if you stick thinking you are due tomorrow, and the bay doesn't come tomorrow, you're going to be really disappointed. where, if the baby comes in 4 days, that's either 3 days after you thought you were due, or 3 days before you could have thought you were due.. and therefore the baby came 3 days before you expected. I think it's a better way to look at it. if I were you, I'd go with the 12 weeks. lol. you may not have conceived on the 14th day.
Reply:I would get a second opinion. I would def. go by your last period. Or the baby is just small. hope everything works out and congrats!
Reply:go with what you feel is right in any rate the baby will come when it is ready later on. If you start to feel sick towards then end of the pregnancy go by your dates and ask to be induced etc because my mum knew her dates and the doc was trying to tell her to wait and she insisted and i had the cord around my neck so.... go with what you know you know when you had sex etc an ultra sound have been known to be wrong, you may even find at your next one the dates have altered to be more like yours (as per what the measurements of bub are) it should all be okay :-)
Reply:go by ur period. Ultrasounds jus go by the size of the baby and if ur baby is smaller than normal that would make then think u weren't as far along as u really are. But as u get farther along i'm sure they'll be more positive about how far u really are
Reply:ALWAYS go by ur last period. especially if it was a normal one. ultrasound dating is an estimate not 100% accurate. ur period is technically the first day of ur pregnancy so use that date.
congrats and good luck
Reply:Your Dr. usually goes with the first US that gives you a date, so your 2nd US. Its more accurate than your period. Keep in mind that everything is based off of a 28 day cycle, which you may not be.
